Do Tarot Cards Work? Everything You Need to Know!

Who Possesses the Ability to interpret Tarot Cards?

Embarking on our journey into the realm of tarot a quite a few years ago, I was uncertain about the significance it would hold for me. Would it merely be a novelty for social gatherings, a new pastime, a captivating tale to share with friends, or something deeper? Intrigued by the captivating imagery and symbolism of the beautifully illustrated cards, I sought to unravel their mysteries and explore the possibility of incorporating them into my understanding of life.

A frequent inquiry I’ve encountered is, “How does one become a tarot reader?” Over time, I’ve come to understand that many ask this question out of concern, fearing that without a mystical background, success in tarot is unattainable. As an individual who dove into tarot with a colorful background in psychic experiences, entering the practice of professional tarot reading in my 30s, I want to debunk this notion.

Tarot is inclusive, open to everyone, and anyone can learn to interpret the rich symbolism in the cards. Regardless of age, background, or profession, individuals from diverse walks of life engage with the tarot deck. Some intertwine tarot with other practices like psychology, astrology, and the purpose for which they are famous for – divination. The manner in which people connect with the tarot is deeply personal, allowing you to establish your unique relationship with the cards on your terms.

Curious about the authenticity of Tarot? Do Tarot Cards Actually Work?

For me, the allure of tarot lies not in predicting the future but in the intricate narratives it unfolds.

My approach is a unique combination of psychic mediumship and narrative construct provided by tarot. A professional reading should acknowledge your past, validate your present and provide you with an illumination of viable options on your path forward. Tarot doesn’t dictate precise actions, and I view this as a positive aspect. What captivates me about tarot is its narrative power, inviting questions and self-reflection, not entirely dissimilar to an ink-blot test, the viewer sees what they feel, and through a psychic lense this is a vast landscape of significant events, people, places, numbers, life events and lessons learned. It empowers individuals to make their own decisions about their future path.

The interaction between different cards offers fresh perspectives, challenges outdated thoughts, and compels self-awareness. While tarot cards are valuable in decision-making and future contemplation, their assistance differs from popular culture expectations.

How do tarot cards function?

A tarot deck encompasses the essence of life within its cards, divided into two sections known as the Arcanas, meaning “secrets.” The Major Arcana comprises 22 cards, depicting significant shifts in life, while the Minor Arcana consists of 56 cards organized into four suits:

– Cups: Associated with water and the emotional self.
– Pentacles: Linked to earth and the physical self.
– Swords: Representing air and the realm of the mind.
– Wands: The suit of fire, reflecting how one applies energy.

The Major Arcana cards tell a dramatic story of beginnings, endings, discoveries, losses, stillness, and growth. Combining these cards forms a myriad of unique life lessons through psychological archetypes found throughout every age of humanity.

Choosing a Tarot Deck

If you’re considering entering the world of tarot, acquiring a tarot deck is a crucial first step. It is an age old myth that you must have your first deck gifted to you, this is completely untrue, and originated from the 1700s when only royalty owned tarot decks which were hand painted, and gifted as lineage passed down. The Rider-Waite-Smith deck, dating back to the early 20th century, serves as a standard reference for many tarot designs. While it’s widely accessible and affordable, numerous alternative decks by diverse creators provide unique perspectives, reimagining traditional imagery.

For beginners, opting for a deck with the common structure of 78 fully illustrated cards is advisable. Avoid oracle decks or pip decks, as they deviate from the traditional tarot structure, making learning impossible, also oracle cards are unstructured and lack psychological archetypes. I advise on the original Rider-Waite deck to start, and begin by developing a relationship with each card. Learning tarot is not unlike learning a new language, it involves dedicated study, association and some memorization.

My absolute favorite deck of all time is The Terra Volatile deck, it’s my go to for life: Check it out HERE!

Reading with Tarot Cards

Tarot readings, whether for oneself or others, follow a consistent format. The reader shuffles the deck, and the querent (the one seeking the reading) pulls a series of cards laid out in a specific pattern or spread. Each position in the spread holds a distinct significance, framing the interpretation of the cards (which is precisely why I enjoy blending tarot readings with psychic mediumship)

Tarot readings are intimate and personal, requiring trust between the reader and the querent, after all it is unbiased information and advice you’re receiving from a stranger. It is recommended to start by reading for oneself or someone familiar before venturing into readings for strangers. Mastery of the cards is essential before providing readings, and a guidebook can serve as a valuable starting point for learning card meanings, spreads, and reading ethics (only reading for the person who gave you consent to do so)

Crafting Personal Stories with Tarot Cards

Ultimately, mastering tarot involves infusing personal experiences and perspectives into card interpretations. While learning that the Death card signifies change and endings is important, reflecting on the personal significance of these symbols enhances the practice – also, The Death card in Tarot can in fact mean physical Death depending on supportive cards within the reading. Over time, tarot cards become intertwined with daily moments, song lyrics, characters from various media, places of interest, months and times of year etc.. Each card may acquire a unique meaning, enriching the timeless practice of tarot.

Tarot endures by remaining relevant to each generation. The symbolic images on the cards transcend fixed meanings, allowing them to embrace every life, experience, and story within their folds. As you dive into the world of tarot, don’t shy away from making it your own and sharing the unique insights it brings forth, at the end of the day it’s just a sign language of your subconscious.
